This region has a rich history dating back to the Arab tribe of Banu Kinana, who built the castle over the ruins of a Roman settlement. During the Reconquest, the military Order of Calatrava used the castle as a defensive fortress in the fight for Christianity.

Today, the castle has been transformed into a stunning castle-palace serving as a family residence and a welcoming place for tourists and friends. It is open for visits Monday through Friday
